Legacy Giving

Including the Humane Society in your estate planning allows you to make a profound and lasting impact on our future sustainability. It also ensures that your generosity continues to help us provide shelter and care for abandoned, surrendered, neglected and lost animals. As part of our plan for continuing fiscal responsibility, we have set a goal to establish endowment funds allowing us to maintain our facilities and provide services to the community as well as the animals in our care.

When naming the Humane Society in your will, you may leave a specific dollar amount or a set percentage of your estate (no amount is too small). You don’t have to have a huge estate to make a difference!

You may also name the Humane Society as a beneficiary of your retirement plan, life insurance policy, bank account, mutual fund, charitable remainder trust or charitable lead trust. Each of there options may help you reduce your estate taxes.

Four opportunities where funds may be designated:

  •  Direct donations. The Humane Society houses approximately 1,200 animals a year. Direct donations allow us to utilize funds as needed at the shelter under the direction of our Board of Directors.
  • Lisa Denman Stacy Medical Fund. This is a designated fund that enables us to provide medical care for animals in the shelter that need special care.
  • The Humane Society Foundation. The Foundation provides lasting financial support for the Humane Society, the community and that animals that it serves. Bequests and donations to the Foundation are managed by the separate Foundation Board.
  • The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation. The Community Foundation improves the quality of life in Hancock County through collaborative leadership and responsible grant making. Bequests and donations to the Community Foundation are managed for the benefit of the Humane Society and pay a small designated percentage that allow the principal to grow and be maintained.
