Veterinarian
of Hancock County in a humane and professional manner. The accepted candidate will provide oversight and mentorship to a small team of medical staff.
Hiring Qualifications
- Earned Doctor Of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD) from an accredited veterinary college.
- Currently licensed in the state of Ohio to practice veterinary medicine or ability to obtain license upon hire.
- Qualified and eligible to obtain DEA license.
- Valid driver’s license in good standing.
Employment Requirements:
- Adhere to The Humane Society & SPCA of Hancock County’s non-discrimination policy.

- Maintain professional liability insurance at levels sufficient to meet minimum requirements recommended by the American Veterinary Medical Association.
- Participate in and provide proof of continuing education requirements on an annual basis pursuant to the State of Ohio license to practice veterinary medicine.
- Adhere to applicable state and federal laws governing the practice of veterinary medicine.
- Adhere to OSHA compliance policies & procedures.
- Maintain strict confidentiality on client, patient and donor information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred experience and training in shelter medicine.
- An understanding and appreciation for the purpose of shelter medicine.
- Knowledge of federal and state animal health and animal laws and regulations.
Physical Requirements
- Candidate must have the ability to exert moderate but not constant physical effort,
typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and
lifting. Carrying objects and animals of various weights. - Candidate must have the ability to stand or sit to perform surgery for 5-8 hours at a time.
- Candidate must have the ability to withstand being regularly exposed to live animals, strong odors, cleaning chemicals and a noisy environment.
- Candidate must have the ability to physically handle animals that may be exhibiting negative or aggressive behaviors.

Salary will be competitive and commensurate based on experience.
Kennel Aide
Kennel Aides are essential to the daily operations of the Humane Society. Responsibilities include the daily care of all shelter animals and public interaction with visitors to the facility.
Job type: Part-time (up to 30 hours per week.)
Essential Job Functions
- Complete care of the animals including daily cleaning and sanitizing of kennels and cages, providing food and water, and daily socialization.
- Maintain the cleanliness of animal kennels/cages and the facility throughout the day
- Record and report any animal behavior or medical concerns to appropriate manager.
- Provide costumer service, including greeting the public and providing information to potential adopters.
- Assist with helping volunteers as needed.
- Assist with and attend organization events as needed.
Requirements
- Duties require the ability to work standing for extended periods, stoop, kneel, bend, and lift up to 40lbs.
- Must be able to read, write and speak English and communicate effectively.
- Must be able to work independently and as a team.
- Must enjoy working with animals and people.
- Must be comfortable with handling dogs, cats, and small animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, etc.)
Schedule
Working hours are between 8:00am and 5:00pm with shifts beginning at 8:00 am and ranging from 4, 6, to 8 hours.
Animals must be provided care daily, therefore, shifts are scheduled on weekends and holidays.
Compensation
The Humane Society & SPCA of Hancock County is a non-profit organization. Funding for operations relies heavily on community donations. Hourly wage for the position of Kennel Aide is Ohio’s minimum wage.
Minimum wage – $10.45
