In Memory with Thankfulness for Service

Dr. Clinton Richard Beckett, DVM

Trustee, Humane Society and SPCA of Hancock County: 1974-2022

Dr. Beckett gave exemplary leadership and service to the Humane Society and SPCA of Hancock County for almost 50 years. He was the longest serving Trustee in this organization.

In 1974, he began the rejuvenation of this community organization, working with Mrs. Joyce Brewer, Mr. Harold Corbin, and Mr. Earl W. Bower. By 1984, he led this organization to establish a foundation to insure continuous services for the needs of animals in Hancock County. During the development and continuous funding of this foundation, Dr. Beckett designed a vision to bring these services closer to people in Hancock County.

Working with other community members, he supported the purchase of real estate close to Findlay to build the facilities to support the pet owners and the animals of Hancock County. He worked with architects, engineers and contractors to create the design and structure for the facilities. His goal was to insure medical care for animals, while setting up facilities for the care, management and adoption of animals humanely. He insured that the facility could care for animals, even as the community would continue to grow.

Dr. Beckett worked with local governmental officials to create the merging of dog warden services with the care and prevention of cruelty to animals. Due to his leadership, The Humane Society and SPCA of Hancock County became a leader in servicing the needs of animals throughout the State of Ohio.

Dr. Beckett exemplified and lived a life of serving the Mission of this organization: The Humane Society & SPCA of Hancock County exists to educate the public on the responsible treatment of animals; to humanely provide for and protect unwanted, lost and abused animals; and to create a quality environment for all animals through its policies and presence in the community.
