Who We Are
Welcome to the Humane Society & SPCA of Hancock County. Our shelter is a modern facility housing approximately 3,000 lost, abused, or unwanted animals per year. Our staff is dedicated to providing the best care possible while a pet awaits a new owner. Our aim is to make a perfect match between our shelter residents and potential owners.
Quick Facts:
- Anyone can hit hard times in their life. We have limited supplies of cat and dog food, thanks to the generosity of local businesses, that we are able to provide free of charge to those in financial crisis. Please call 419-423-1664 to check availability of food.
- We have an in-house low-cost spay/neuter clinic, which opened to the public in 2007.
- The shelter has a computerized record-keeping system tracking every animal that comes to us for care.
- Microchip pet identification helps us reunite lost pets with their owners.
- Animal Care & Control Officers are available to check any animal abuse situation, enforce animal laws, and reunite lost pets and their owners.
- Dog licenses are sold at the Society.
- Our organization is non-profit and relies on contributions and fundraisers to sustain our operations.
- Volunteer programs include a bingo fundraiser and Share-A-Pet. Bingo is our major fundraiser. Share-A-Pet entails volunteers visiting local nursing homes with pets from our shelter.
